Saint John's Day

There is no easy route to Puerto Rico through Delta.  We took the red-eye flight and had to catch a connection in New York.  Our plane leaving Salt Lake was delayed a few hours, I was already sleep deprived from the night before, so this was not good news!  We waited for our flight to leave and once we arrived in NYC we found out we missed our connection.  We got to spend an additional three hours in the airport waiting for the next flight to leave.  At least they upgraded us to first class for our last leg of the plane ride.
We FINALLY arrived in Puerto Rico and our hotel was connected to the hotel so it was quick and easy to check in.

We relaxed for a little bit and decided to try a restaurant the hotel staff recommended to us.  We also were dressed for the beach since we were taking public transportation we didn't want to have to come back to the hotel after dinner.  We dined at The Metropol, which I HIGHLY suggest if you are ever in Puerto Rico.  The ask the waitress to bring us the locals favorite, she said it wasn't on the menu but she told us to order Mofongo.  When she brought it out we were a little worried...

It looks scary but, it was honestly one of our favorite things we ate the entire vacation and we have been wanting more ever since we left :)

We also found out that we arrived on a National holiday, Saint John's Day.  Here is how Wikipedia defines it: "Since John the Baptist is the patron saint of the Island and the namesake of the capital city (San Juan), his day is widely celebrated by big parties on the beaches on the Eve of St. John's Day (June 23). One tradition is to walk backward into the ocean and fall in 12 times at midnight on the beginning of the 24th."

The beaches were packed with people!  There were so many parties going on all of the place.

It was weird to be swimming in the warm ocean water at 9:00 at night.  We stayed and played on the beach and in the water for an hour or so, but because of the time change and all-night-flight we decided to get to take a taxi back to the hotel and go to bed.
